National Margarita Day

Sunday, February 22 is a great day! Hanging out in West University, Houston, Texas at Under the Volcano enjoying a delicious Margarita on the rocks. As we sit on the patio with fans blowing and it’s 75 degrees, two people having funny conversations, one person working on their laptop, another sitting reading the paper and their dog laying on the ground. I love Houston atmosphere and hospitality. People smile at you, say hello and are courteous to share a table with you. Sunday’s are my favorite day to relax out on a patio in Houston.

What do your Sunday’s look like? Do you enjoy the outside? Are you a inside bar only person? Whatever your preference is, enjoy yourself and surround it with good people, good food and good beverages.

People over Projects…Lysa TerKeurst

“When our to-do lists tug at our attention, we have to remember: the people in our lives need us. We need space to connect and process together. After all, conversational threads are what make up the fabric of relationships.” Lysa TerKeurst

This came from: How to Choose People Over Projects

I read this today and for the past several months I was choosing “projects over people”, a job over EVERYTHING else. And if you know me….that’s not me at all. So, I made a change, not for money, not for peace, but for relationships that matter to me….YOU…my friends, my family! Yes, Charles and I own a small business, we are busy, but when it comes to friendships, we value them, we love to entertain and stay in touch. So, let’s have conversations, let’s create a blanket of memories.
Coffee dates, beer dates, cupcake date or just a phone call date.

Happy Thursday!

Let’s give this a little try….

2015 started out with a serious bang….I quit my job. But overall, it was a good thing. I had to move on with what was a priority in life….my family. Working long days, not cooking dinner, grouchy husband and restless adult children, I had to give in and find a job that would best suit my needs as a mom and wife. But that didn’t mean to stay home (though I did for 8 days).

My recruiter found me a part-time position as a receptionist, paying more than what I was getting at my old job and I go in for 4.5 hrs. SWEET! I can still make breakfast every now and then for the guys in the morning and my daughter and I can talk a morning stroll at the Houston Arboretum. I am able to clean house, do laundry and take care of my husband’s social media for Mancave Toyz. I can brainstorm about cupcake ideas and much more. I know this is going to be a good thing.

This weekend, I am going to bake a bit for my family. I want to try out some new recipes and a friend of mine sent me some homemade toffee to try which will go into a cupcake. Though I am in the mood to bake Neapolitan Cupcakes by Cooking Classy . So, it just night happen and stay tuned this weekend for pics and an update.

Getting bake to baking has made my heart a bit happier. I am always excited to bring out the mixer and spatulas. So, if you like sweets, keep it here and you just might see more of them and I will share recipes from great bakers all around.

Have a safe weekend!

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas from Houston, Texas!

Friends….bloggers! I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas. It was a beautiful day here in Houston. The weather was nice and inviting.

We have been a busy group with work and school. My husband is in the process of launching his company called Mancave Toyz. We participated in a vendor event in early December, and had many orders placed for many different things. But the biggest hit this holiday season was the “beer cap opener/catcher”. Here is a sample of what it looks like. What do you think?

We were also featured in CultureMap Houston this past week. Take a look at all the other cool things that were featured too.

Well, that is all for tonight.

From my family to yours….Merry Christmas.

The beginning of a new season…Christmas

Christmas was never a good holiday for me, at least for the past 4 years. Family grows apart, friendships fade and well, the time of depression tends to set in….DEEPLY. But this holiday season I will make it different, I will make it better around my family. My spirits will be lifted, my mindset will be positive and my overall goal is to be as happy as I possibly can.

The empty bench that you see here will be filled with time spent reading, drinking coffee and conversations with people that I love and enjoy. So, come join me and help me make memories and laugh about the nonsense of life’s worries.

Day 21 – #21EarlyDays with JRose!

Day 21 – I DID IT! I have accomplished the early mornings, the going to bed by 10pm, sometimes 9pm, the cleaning of my house early in the morning and the good walks that I had while seeing the sun rise. Do I keep it going? I am not sure yet, maybe just a few days of the week.

She-believed-PINK

I didn’t do this challenge alone. You all that have started following me, liking my posts and sending me messages are the ones that are most encouraging because it kept me going. I didn’t want to disappoint you. I didn’t want to disappoint myself. I had to stay motivated and focused, with that I want to say Thank You!

This morning I read through all my posts, and I can’t believe some of the things I accomplished and some things I should have done better. Overall, I am happy with my #21EarlyDays challenge and I thank Filipe Castro Matos for the “12 lessons of waking up at 4:30a for 21 days.” I learned how to manage my time, go to bed and rest, and see life as a whole and not just for myself.

From the book Now is the time, by Patrick Lindsay

Now is the time…to ignore your limitations

Limitations are just guideposts,

They may signal different routes

or different ways to reach a destination.

But they won’t prevent us from getting there,

unless we empower them to do so.

Ignore them,

focus on the journey.

Happy Thursday!

Cheers,

JRose!

Day 19 – #21EarlyDays with JRose!

Day 19 – Only 2 more days! Should I keep it going? I woke today at 5:30a, I didn’t do much around the house this morning, but wash a few dishes from last night, ate breakfast and had a cup of coffee. I did talk a “humid” stroll in my neighborhood this morning, phew it was HOT! Where did the autumn weather go? I posted the social media for work this morning and answered a few emails. The sun is bright and the rain is supposedly to arrive this afternoon…we shall see.

Last night was not a good night in Casa JRose. If you are a parent of college kids, you just might sympathize with me. We work hard to keep a nice house, a good environment and well a safe place to dwell. But when things (rooms) become disarray, this momma gets frustrated. You have heard the saying, ‘I don’t get paid to be a maid in my own house!” Yeah, that was me last night. I am somewhat better this morning, and I shouldn’t sweat the small issues, but man, it’s hard!

I will go on with my day, go on with my work and come home to hopefully a peaceful environment. Then go to bed early and start all over again.

It’s never too late…..to love unconditionally

Love can be liberating.

Or it can be confining.

Long-lasting love must be without conditions.

It must allow room for growth.

For expression.

For freedom.

For mistakes.

For forgiveness.

Unconditional love has no limits.

Happy Day!

Cheers,

JRose!
